BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND… Escape From The Heat! A summer tradition of the Desert Stars is to take a weekend drive out of the Valley up into the cool pines of our spectacular Northern Arizona for a break from the warmest days of the summer. This year we have picked the weekend of August 17th. We have a block of rooms at the Best Western Saw Mill Inn at Heber/ Overgaard (for Friday August 16th and Saturday August 17th. Don’t forget to mention that you’re with the Mercedes-Benz Club to receive a reduced room rate of $74.75 per night. After checking in Friday afternoon members Andy and Rae Billick will host a meet and greet at their cabin in Bison Ranch at about 4:30. To get to their cabin turn right on Covered Wagon Trail (after mile marker 309), keep right until Palomino Trail and the cabin is at 2653. A little later we can all meet up at the Wild Woman Saloon for a bite to eat. Saturday Morning after breakfast I have a road trip planned that will take us though the Petrified Forest National Park and then through Show low before returning to Heber. Dinner arrangements have been made for 5:00 Saturday evening at Casa Ramos. So whether you sit on the porch and watch the thunderstorms roll into the Valley, or participate in the Saturday drive to scenic local points of interest, you’re sure to enjoy one of my favorite events.
