BAKARY SAKO HAS TO WAIT ON WOLVES MOVE Bakary Sako is set to go into the new season as a Wolves player after talks on his exit broke up without progress. Sako’s English agent met chief executive Jez Moxey on Monday to see if he could advance his move away. Wolves maintain there is no offer on the table despite Fulham remaining keen on the Player of the Year. It’s understood Wolves want £4m-plus for Sako, while Fulham are willing to put a package of around £2.5m together. But with no formal bid, Wolves say there is nothing to consider, while noises from Sako’s camp suggest Molineux officials are holding up a deal because they won’t name their price. Head coach Kenny Jackett said: “His agent may well have been in to see Kevin Thelwell and Jez, but there have been no fresh approaches.” Wolves are relaxed about the outcome, even though Sako’s estimated £25,000-a-week earnings are a huge drain for a League One club. And club officials are confident they can sign potential replacements without needing to sell him first, despite his salary. Both camps seem confident Sako will remain fully focused and continue playing for Wolves while his future is sorted out, just as Matt Jarvis did this time last year before his £10.75m move to West Ham. There is also no suggestion of Wolves imposing a deadline to sort out Sako’s future. Jackett is happy to select Sako to play at Preston in the League One curtain-raiser on Saturday. “I can only talk about his work and his work has been very good,” said Jackett. “He played very well on Saturday and he trained very well on Monday morning. That’s where he can be judged. “He’s a Wolves player until we get a deal that suits us as well. “We’re not going to do something that’s not right for the club, which is paramount in all of this.” Jackett has previously hinted that he expects Sako to leave but is determined to get as much out of the former France Under-21 international as possible while he remains at Molineux. He has noticeably improved the defensive side of Sako’s game. “I hope so, but the main thing I’d like to him continue to do is effecting the game offensively,” said Jackett. “In being clear about people’s jobs defensively, you can help players.”
