| BANGLADESH PRATIDIN -OP-ED | জনগণের মন উপলব্ধি -UNDERSTANDING THE PUBLIC PULSE: My op-ed in todays Bangladesh Pratidin, one of the largest circulated newspapers in the country, on Dhaka Tribunes recent opinion poll showing over 75.3% people are satisfied with the government, 69.4% people believe the country is moving forward in the right direction and 77.9% people are against agitation movements by the opposition. An earlier version of this op-ed was published in Dhaka Tribune (English) and Bangla Tribune (Bangla). জনগণের মতামত যেভাবে সরকারের প্রতি ঘুরেছে, তা দেখাচ্ছে যে বাংলাদেশ হয়তো মালয়েশিয়ার ড. মাহাথিরের উন্নয়ন মডেলের শান্তি, স্থিতি এবং ধারাবাহিকতার দিকেই এগিয়ে তার জাতীয় সমৃদ্ধি বৃদ্ধি করতে পারে। ইতিহাসের এই যুগসন্ধিক্ষণে বেশির ভাগ মানুষ উন্নয়নকে সর্বোচ্চ অগ্রাধিকার হিসেবেই দেখতে চায়। আর বাংলাদেশ আওয়ামী লীগ যদি ভিশন-২০২১ বাস্তবায়নে সক্ষম হয় এবং পারস্পেক্টিভ ২০৪১ অনুযায়ী জাতীয় উন্নয়ন প্রকল্পগুলোকে মালয়েশিয়ার ভিশন-২০২০ এর মতো সুনিষ্পন্নতার পথে নিতে পারে, তাহলে জনগণের সমর্থন সরকারের প্রতি শনৈশনৈ বৃদ্ধি পাবে এবং আরও জোরদার হবে। (The turnaround indicates Bangladesh may move moving towards the Malaysian Dr Mahathir developmental model of peace, stability and continuity for national progress. At this juncture of history, majority of people want to see development as the top priority. If the AL can articulate Bangladesh’s Vision 2021 and Perspective 2041 as overarching national developmental programs like Malaysia’s Vision 2020, public support for the government may strengthen further) যদি আওয়ামী লীগ অব্যাহতভাবে বলিষ্ঠ অর্থনীতি বজায় রাখতে পারে সেই সঙ্গে আইনশৃঙ্খলা পরিস্থিতিও নিয়ন্ত্রণে রাখে, অবকাঠামো উন্নয়ন এবং দুর্নীতি যদি বেশি না ছড়ায়, তবে তারা এই সন্তোষজনক ভাবধারাতেই রাখতে পারবে জনগণকে এবং পুরো মেয়াদেই জনগণের সমর্থন পাবে। শুধু নির্বাচন নয়, সব বিষয়ে ঐকমত্যের স্বার্থে সরকার জাতীয় পর্যায়ে দেশব্যাপী সংলাপের আয়োজন এবং রাজনৈতিক পরিমার্জন করে শান্তি ও স্থিতি বজায় রেখে দেশের উন্নয়নের দিকেই এগিয়ে নিতে পারবে। এবার আওয়ামী লীগ দীর্ঘমেয়াদের ধারাবাহিকতা বজায় রাখার এক অনন্য সুযোগ পেয়েছে, যাতে রাজনৈতিক ধারাবাহিকতার মাধ্যমে দেশকে সুন্দরভাবে ঢেলে সাজিয়ে, প্রবৃদ্ধি বাড়িয়ে এবং উন্নয়ন প্রকল্পগুলো বাস্তবায়ন করে এগিয়ে নিতে পারবে। আমাদের দেশের সংসদীয় গণতন্ত্রে এটি নজিরবিহীন একটা সুযোগ বাংলাদেশকে উন্নয়নের দিকে সামনে নিয়ে যাওয়া। (If the AL can continue to deliver a strong economy supported by improved law and order, infrastructure development and at least a reasonable level of anti-corruption crackdown, it will be able to sustain the “feel good” mood and complete its term with public support. The government stands to benefit the most by taking the first step to initiate a broad national dialogue for political reforms to ensure peace and stability prevails in order to pursue its development agenda.
