BANGOR, Maine -- Bangor businessman and resident Ryan Hatch has decided he must regretfully withdraw his bid to win a seat on the Bangor City Council this fall. Due to the demands of his business and future expansion both in and outside Maine, Hatch -- owner and operator of the popular The Maine Jump family entertainment bounce house and a statewide party rental business -- has had to make the difficult decision to end his first-time effort to win a Bangor City Council seat. The Maine Jump will be opening new franchises in four states (Vermont, New York, Florida and Texas) over the next 18 months, and that expansion -- along with the continued operational demands of The Maine Jump’s current facilities in Bangor, Presque Isle and Portland -- will occupy much of Hatch’s time and attention, and likely force him to spend significant time away not only from Bangor, but Maine. “I have been thinking a lot about this the last couple weeks and I would not want my business obligations to be a negative impact on my council duties and responsibilities, and I fear that would happen often as these expansion projects will require me to spend a lot of time out of state,” said Hatch Wednesday afternoon. “It is a difficult decision for me as I was quite sincere in my desire to run for a Council seat in an effort to serve my community and effect positive change.” Hatch said that while his Council bid is over, it is by no means a signal that he will not seek public office in the future. “I continue to have a strong desire to serve my community in a civil government role and will definitely run when it is feasible in the future,” Hatch said. “But I also believe we can still effect change and serve our community without the benefit of holding public office. “In some ways, I think we may all be able to serve our local community better without having some of the restrictions and obligations that go along with public office.” The Maine Jump, which has seen more than 500,000 customers come through its doors annually since reopening under new management (Hatch) in 20011, recently held a grand reopening after a $180,000 renovation and upgrade project. Hatch will continue to fund charitable endeavors as well as give back to the Bangor community with services and products provided from The Maine Jump, as the Brewer native has since returning back to his native state in 2011, following several years spent building his party rental and family entertainment business up in Florida.
