BASIC INSTINCTS: This vid ( thanks Sam Bharadwaj) took me back to 1984 when i was a 4th termer at National Defence Academy,Pune then... on the term break my significant others n i had vacationed at Kathmandu emplaning and deplaning at NSCB Intl (*Dumdum) Airport Calcutta. We then had to catch a night train back to Bhilai... and when we reached the Stn i was striding a few paces ahead of my parents with a bag of phoren goodies ( Rajbans, swiss knife, cigarettes, colognes etc) slung on my broad shoulder on the crowded platform with the train standing on the lines .. when suddenly i heard a female shriek and scream from behind me, Chor Chor .... a bare-bodied loin-clothed youth dashed past me ...without a second thought i dropped my bag and sprinted after that dasher.... he was lithe and he was fast dodging in the crowd... but i was fit too and just as i grasped his slick neck (oiled as i realised later) he swerved and jumped onto the filthy rails in the gap between the coaches... i too followed as fast as i could .. but he was a pro..and it was dark on the far side .... i ran a few yards both sides but he was gone.... when i emerged panting back on the platform to my surprise i was not covered with glory ( not smelling too good either !!!!) ...instead i was surrounded by an excited bong crowd who were jabbering away in jabberjee, mockerjee and chatterjee 19 to the doz...their collective tone indignant.... apparently i was no hero but a near zero ...for they informed my folks and i that i was lucky to come back alive ... as these snatchers operate in gangs and there would have been rampuri knife toting backups below on the escape routes.... so much for NDA training and philbravado...... anyway as you can see i lived to tell this and more to come in the Life Of Phil ;). P.S: That shriek was actually from my mother, though at that juncture it did not really register... the thief had grabbed her gold wedding neclace and her reactions too were fauji she yelled and grabbed the chain as it was being yanked off... half remained in her grasp .... especially the holy minnu ... (Mangalsutra)....... Saira Philipose https://youtube/watch?v=sg6S5zCBkEc
