A film scored by Daniel Ellis won two awards at the CSU Media Arts Festival. Steven Spielberg and the Return to Film School won the narrative category, and the Audience Choice Award. The films director Joshua Hoh said, And to top it all off, we had the pleasure of recording the final three-minute piece of the film with the CSULB Symphony Orchestra, made up of 80 of CSULBs finest musicians. As a music minor myself, it was truly a dream come true to bring the film and music departments together for this project. Grace Byeon has been hired as a music teacher at St. Edward the Confessor Parish School in Dana Point. Althea Waites collaborated with organist/ music director Peter Bates, at Covenant Presbyterian Church in downtown Long Beach. The program consisted of works for piano and organ by Cesar Franck, along with a performance of the Symphonic Variations with Mr.Bates transcribing the orchestral part on the organ. The concert was sponsored by the Long Beach chapter of the AGO, and was enthusiastically received by the audience. David Garrett adjudicated the concerto contest for students of The Colburn School. Journalist Birgitta Tollan interviewed Althea Waites for Swedish Radio and Television. Ms. Tollan is working on a documentary focusing on women in the performing arts; Waites was one of 12 women selected for an in-depth interview on her life and work. Excerpts from the documentary will be broadcast on Swedish Public Radio in January and will also be available via podcast and online. The article as stated that, In the pit, the CCM Concert Orchestra, expertly led by CCM alumnus Johannes Müller-Stosch, traveled through the unsettled score, setting atmospheres both bright and ethereal. The lead photo featured BCCM alumni Tyler Alessi and Simon Barrad. Jessie Shulman was also in that cast. Alumni Anthony Moreno and Alyssa Wills performed main roles in USCs production of LIncoronazione di Poppea Nov 20-24. Alumnus Ryan Darke has been appointed Principal Trumpet in the San Diego Symphony. Alumnus Andrew Balogh was honored with a Hollywood Music in Media Award for Special Recognition For Original Score - TV Promo for Throw it Back (Reality Series TV Show). Alumnus VJ Rosales is one of the featured performers on this seasons The Sing Off on NBC. The show premieres Monday, December 9th at 9:00p. The Sing-Off is a reality show competition for a cappella singing groups . VJ will be singing with The Filharmonics, a group of male Filipino singers. Their knack for ’90s R&B, mixed with their Filipino culture, is sure to bring a new twist to the music of the past. Only 10 groups are on the show. The songs featured on the show will be available on iTunes the day after each telecast. Eric Marienthal is a multiple-grammy-winning saxophonist/ He has several highly-regarded albums and performs with the Gordon Goodwin Big Phat Band. Alumnus Axel Clarke will take on the role on Ringo in a Beatles vs Stones Tribute Band shoot out on Sunday, December 8 at 7 pm at the Gaslamp Restaurant and Bar. According to Axel, We got our Sgt.
