Bernardi and Pemberton Township Police Chief David H. Jantas announced that a Mount Holly man was charged yesterday with sending threatening text messages to six Burlington County College employees in April 2013, leading to a partial closure and search of the school’s Pemberton Township campus. Jared P. Eversmeyer, 19, of the 200 block of Broad Street in Mount Holly, was charged with six counts of Terroristic Threats (Third Degree). Eversmeyer surrendered yesterday at the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office. He was released after posting 10 percent of $20,000 bail which had been set by the Hon. Susan L. Claypoole, J.S.C. The threats led to the closure of the physical education building on the Pemberton Township campus on April 29. It was searched by law enforcement personnel and explosive-detecting canines and reopened the next day. No explosives were found. The investigation revealed that on April 23 and April 28, six employees of Burlington County College’s aquatic center received text messages warning them that they have been targeted and should quit their jobs. The text messages contained non-specific threats but indicated “we have your names and addresses.” The investigation revealed that the messages were sent from an IP address associated with the University of Tampa in Florida where Eversmeyer was attending as a student at the time. The motive for the sending of the texts is still unclear. The investigation was conducted by detectives from the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office High-Tech/Forensic Crimes Unit, Major Crimes Unit and Crime Scene Unit, along with the Pemberton Township Police Department, the Burlington County Sheriff’s Department and the Burlington County College Public Safety Department. All persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. END 2013-25
