BCWRT/290 Event: In the guise of our Hon. Vice-President, Bob Maffitt, non other than Capt. John N. Maffitt visited the Brunswick Civil War Round Tables gathering of March 4th 2014. As you guessed, Bob was asked by BCWRT’s Wally Rueckel to portray his famous ancestor Capt. John N. Maffitt, appropriately, in view of the subject of the main lecture, “The Civil War at Sea” by eminent speaker, Dr. Craig L. Symonds, Professor Emeritus of History at the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, Md. former Professor of Strategy at the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, R.I. and at the Britannia, Royal Naval College in Dartmouth, England. Well over three hundred members and guests showed up to hear Craig talk about the Civil War Navy in an entertaining, often humorous manner At the end of the evening, BCWRT Chuck Isak was the ‘unlucky’ winner of the evening raffle where the prize was a copy of Ian Dewar’s latest novel, ‘The Adventures of Cornelius Quinn – Alabama’.
