BE CAREFUL WITH YOUR RESPONSE Assalamalaikum, a lot of us lose our cool when a Muslim is allegedly oppressed. While it makes our blood boil (and it should), we should also not get carried away by emotions. To begin with, we should ensure we have the facts right before we jump to conclusions. Most times we pass judgments without even having known all the facts, and it is just because the person who was allegedly oppressed was a Muslim. Our loyalties should primarily lie with truth and justice, irrespective of who is oppressed and who is the oppressor. When we, those who have the true guidance, do not exhibit these basic principles of integrity and justice, how can we expect the misguided ones to be just and honest? And even when the crime is proven, we cannot pass irresponsible comments about how the criminal should be dealt with. Unless we bring in maturity in our way of dealing with these situations, we will continue to burn our own fingers. How many times have we seen our youth going berserk while participating in protests etc. And such actions only add to our already long list of problems. There is a need to channel this energy, and adopt ways and means which will really make a difference. May Allah grant us understanding and assist us in our affairs. Ameen.
