BE REVOLUTIONARY! SWIM AGAINST THE STREAM!- Luke 5:4 - “Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep…” Have you ever heard of “The path of least resistance”? This term is used to describe the person who makes the choice that is not the most advantageous, not the best for their life, not what will better them or better those around them; but what is the easiest for the present time. The EASIEST way. Let’s look at our verse of scripture here. Simon is a fisherman and has fisherman buddies. They know how to fish, they do it as a profession! But here comes Jesus, a carpenter and is telling them where to put the net… it sounds ridiculous! But do you see Simon saying, “Yeah… Jesus, you’re cool and all, but I’m gonna stick with my buddies on this one”? NO! Simon immediately does what Jesus told him to do! He LAUNCHED into the deep! He could have gone the easy way and just did what all the other fisherman were doing, but he refused to take the path of least resistance! There will be moments in your life that you’re faced with the decision of weather or not you’re going to stand up and let your convictions be known. But most of us don’t do that right? Instead we follow the path of least resistance: the easy way. Have you ever seen the discovery channel talk about salmon? The salmon is an amazing fish! Why? Because most fish just go with the flow of the water. However, the salmon does not follow the path of least resistance, instead it creates its own way. When the whole fish world is going south, the salmon goes north! They swim AGAINST THE STREAM! You know, that’s not what the majority of people in this world are like though. They want to take the path of least resistance, the path that will make them LIKED more, the path that will make them FIT IN, instead of the path of what’s right. In Matthew 14:22 – 32 we see a great example of this. Jesus was walking on the water out to a boat that the disciples were in. But the disciples didn’t want anything to do with Him. They were afraid and they were going to stay in the boat. But Peter decided to not follow the path of least resistance. He decided not to stand there and do nothing, but instead to get out of that boat and follow! Going against the flow! Here is the question for today… when you are looking at your life… what path do you choose? The path of adventure, the path to swim against the current of popular opinion, of what makes you LOOK good? Or the path of least resistance and be just one of a million fish in the stream? ANY DEAD SALMON CAN FLOAT DOWNSTREAM! God has created you to be different. You are called to be a world shaker and a revolutionary! Let’s take Christ’s command and launch out into the deep to go against the flow and change this world for God!
