“BE STRONG AND COURAGEOUS” Joshua had been challenged! God - TopicsExpress

“BE STRONG AND COURAGEOUS” Joshua had been challenged! God commissioned him to lead the children of Israel into the promised land. Joshua had been chosen to assume the responsibility of leadership in the place of Moses, one of the greatest leaders of all time. Joshua received his marching orders from God. “Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan river into the land I am about to give to them – to the Israelites” (v.2). Joshua knew that the task was beyond his natural ability. He realized the seriousness of being their leader. Fear gripped his heart. How could he handle such a responsibility? It seemed an insurmountable task. The Jordan River was at flood stage. He had been in the land before to survey it and knew the strength of the enemy. But he could move forward, standing firm on God’s promise, “As I was with Moses, so I will be with you” (v.5). Understanding Joshua’s feelings of fear and inadequacy, God said, “Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their forefathers to give them” (v.6). Having God with him, Joshua was a majority. Courage is firmly facing difficulties and obstacles, knowing God has promised to be with you. Joshua could move into the land with strength and courage, focusing not on the obstacles but on God, who is completely trustworthy.
