BEAR ALERT!!! To Residents of Shady Nook, Shephards Island and the east end of Whitehouse Road: This was reported by a Shady Nook Resident: On Saturday night the grownups in my camp heard some heavy thumping and crunching nearby. Upon further investigation, they wisely determined that the 400 lb. bear standing in the clearing by our shed was most likely the culprit. Knowing that our children were skulking around and playing some hiding game across the street, our brave heroes, Bobby and Dennie, chased the bear back into the woods away from the children. Except ... the black bear ran down into the hollow and started heading for the road. So the women ran and yelled for the children, the children ran and yelled for no particular reason (theyre just always loud), and the men folk continued the chase. The bear crossed the road. The men crossed the road. The bear ran down the path into the wooded lot. The men ran down the path into the wooded lot. The bear turned and growled. The men turned tail and ran! The bear is probably so traumatized it will never come back, but could you please send out a note to the membership and let them know a bear was spotted and remind them not to leave bird feeders or garbage out that might attract him.
