BEHOLD THE FACE OF CHANGE IN TARABA STATE Senator Aisha Jummai Al-Hassan, APC Governorship candidate for Taraba State. She won the APC primaries with a landslide victory of 2425 votes with other candidates Ibrahim Tumba, Dr Julde S & Yusuf polling 18, 5, and 14 votes respectively. It is the first time a Woman would be the Governorship candidate in a major political party in the Country. KUDOS TO APC. A lawyer by training from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria and the Nigerian Law School (1985), she was called to Bar in 1986. She was at various times Magistrate, Secretary, FCT Judiciary Committee; Chief Registrar FCT High Court; as well as Attorney-General and Commissioner of Justice Taraba State. She retired from public service in 2010 and went into business and politics. She contested the Senate seat for Taraba North and won in 2011 defeating a former two terms Governor of the State, Rev. Jolly Nyame. She serves in the Senate Committees on :Women Affairs (Vice-Chairman) and Housing. She has legislative interests in: Education, Judiciary, Millenium Development Goals (MDGs), Appropriation, Power, etc. HER VISION/MISSION is stated as follows: To contribute in making laws that will reform our country and and better the lives of Nigerians. HER PERSONALITY (ADAPTED FROM OKOI OBONO OBLA): She is well spoken, amicable, self assured, unpretentious and friendly. Indeed she is an Amazon in all ramifications. She is equally determined, dogged and politically astute. She has braced the odds, the difficulties and the challenges that women face in politics, particularly in a very religiously and culturally conservative North Eastern Region of Nigeria. Senator Al-Hassan reminds us of tough women politicians and statesmen we have seen in conservative Muslim dominated countries in Asia such as Bangladesh and Pakistan such as late Benazir Bhutto(21st June, 1953-27th December, 2007) the 1th Prime Minister of Pakistan from 1988 to 1990 and then 1993 to 1996. There is also Sheikh Hasina the current Woman Prime Minister of Bangladesh. She is also intensely de-tribalised open, accommodative and broadminded: I was struck when I discovered that her Personal Assistant was a young Christian Lady from the Igbo speaking part of Delta State, a. striking evidence that she will make a good governor in a mini Nigeria like Taraba State. Taraba State is ethnically very diverse and also multi-religious.
