BENOLA’S OUTREACH TO ORPHANAGES WITHIN AJAH COMMUNITY As a follow up to Benola’s 2nd National CP Family Forum held on 2nd August 2014, excess gift packs for families of children with CP that were not utilized provided another opportunity for Benola to reach out to Homes/Orphanages in our home base, Ajah, Lagos. The exercise which was originally planned for One day, 8th August 2014, resulted in a repeat visit on 13th August 2014 due to shortfalls in some areas which Benola’s Co-Founder and Executive Director Mrs. Alaba Gbadebo was compelled to address. The Homes, Sought After Children’s Orphanage at Addo Owode, (60 children ages 1 – 16) and Arrow of God Orphanage at Oke Ira Nla (Over 250 Children ages 3 – 25), received gift packages containing food items, bottled water and fruit drinks and clothing for the children. In addition basic items of medication (Courtesy of NAF Hospital Ikeja) were donated to the homes. Staff and children at both homes were also treated to words of encouragement and a talk on cerebral palsy by Mrs. Alaba Gbadebo, which was followed by a question and answer session. Both homes, are properly registered, organized and run while the children looked happy, healthy and well groomed. At Arrow of God Orphanage, the discovery of two students from Covenant University, Otta, who were “home” for the holidays, was a particularly humbling experience. At the end each visit, the authorities commended Benola for reaching out to them, and expressed their desire for more of such visits and talks. They also promised to contribute, in their own little way, in helping to spread the word about Cerebral Palsy, Early Detection and Intervention as well as other Childhood Disabilities.
