BIAFRA/IGBO PRESIDENCY The time has once again presented itself - TopicsExpress

BIAFRA/IGBO PRESIDENCY The time has once again presented itself for the Igbo nation to take decision on which direction the Igbo race is going rather than sitting on the fence not knowing which way to follow, some saying on Biafra we stand while others are busy struggling for Igbo presidency and at the same time complaining of marginalization, oppression and suppression in the Nigerian. The freedom that we seek, the position that we want and the integration that we so much desired into the Nigerian system or the separation and actualization of nationhood can only be achieved through a collective decision of what we really want as a people. How you dress is how they will address you. If we as a people present ourselves as serious people with collective goals and aspirations then the rest of the Nigerian society will see us as such but when we act otherwise then they will also see us as people without vision. So the choice is ours to make as a people. After the civil war, the Igbo nation has been treated as victims of the war by the Nigerian Government and the treatment meted out to the Igbo people is made possible through some elements within the Igbo nation. However, having said the above, it is reasonable for us to come together and evaluate our problems and at the same time take a close look into various ways of solving these problems. Will walking away and establishing Biafra be the solution to these problems? Or staying together as one nation in the Nigerian system and thereby find a way to address all the injustices meted out to us be of a wiser decision? For those who subscribe for the state of Biafra there is nothing wrong with the idea after all it is the desire of every race to have a nation of their own where they will have a language of their own as a people with the same culture and religion and the same history and understanding. But time and event has overtaken this concept, the entire human race is gradually seeing themselves as one people with the same destiny. The only thing the people of Biafra can boast of is buying and selling for now, there is no federal presence in Igbo land, no airport, no seaport ,no railways ,no international market, no manufacturing plants, no roads and no electricity, no refinery and no LNG plant and if we are hoping that the south south people will join us as part of Biafra then we are only building castle in the air. The nation of Igbo is land locked without any sea. The south south have boarder with other nations, likewise the Hausa and Yoruba people, Igbo is standing alone. Come to think about it, today Abia state is being ruled by an Igbo man and there are no roads, no water, no housing, poor education and sanitation is at zero level and I bet you had it been a British man was chosen to govern Abia state by now the cities in Abia state will be more beautiful than cities in England. Today Imo state has a governor that is not only from Igbo land but also a citizen of Imo state and yet there are failed government projects everywhere in the state with the government of the day very busy with contract scams. I tell you this if a Chinese man was made the governor of Imo state by now Imo state could have overtaken Malaysia as a manufacturing giant. Today Anambra state is under the leadership of a pure Igbo man and yet the federal government is playing politics with the second Niger bridge and the Onitsha market is still a training ground for mad people and hear this from me, if you give Anambra state to an Arab man, Dubai will be nothing compared to Anambra state. By analogy I asked myself when the state of Biafra is finally here with us is it not the same people who has ruined Igbo land that will still be in power? If the Igbo leadership meant well for the people they represent they should demonstrate this through their leadership style. My people I love Biafra but let us not be in a hurry to make decisions that we as a people might regret, let us first examine our hearts and minds and tell ourselves the truth, is Biafra truly the answer? On the issue of Igbo presidency, if we can come together as a people, abandoning all manner of selfishness, deceit, betrayal, anger, envy and jealousy and collectively support a candidate from Igbo extraction with our whole heart that will be a better decision considering what we have lost in the past and what we stand to lose again if we break away from Nigeria now. The rate of recovering will be faster with Igbo man as a president of Nigeria than with the state of Biafra which means starting from the scratch all over again. My people this is my own take about the Igbo situation for now and it is very much open to debate and those who know better should educate us further. Long Live Igbo Land. Ejiofor Churchil.
