BOLAND RUGBY UNION IN HEALTHY FINANCIAL STATE The Boland Rugby Union held its Annual General Meeting at the Boland Rugby Stadium, Wellington, in the Flappie Lochner Hall last Thursday 27 February 2014. The meeting was lead by Mr Francois Davids, who in his fifth term as President of the Boland Rugby Union gave an overview of 2013. Davids said that although the union faced a few challenges last year, he was pleased with the efforts of the new Boland Rugby Executive Management team in 2013, especially in terms of their contribution and guidance on development-level. After his first year as Chief Executive Operator of the Boland Rugby Union in 2013, Mr Willie Small stated that the Boland Rugby group showed a profit in 2013, but added that various challenges still need to be addressed in order to improve Boland Rugby’s cash reserves, for the union to be able to support clubs more financially. “The Union and Company’s financial position is very healthy, but the withdrawal of Regent Insurance as Title sponsor of Boland Rugby from 1 July is a negative aspect that we need to convert into a positive challenge”. Small also spoke about action plans that will be implemented in order to enhance cooperation and development in various departments, as well as highlighting Boland Rugby’s contribution towards transformation on professional level. “The Cavaliers once again stayed true to the transformation objectives and we were successful in rewarding several of our club players with opportunities to debut on a professional level for the Regent Boland Cavaliers”. With more than 80% of the Boland Rugby Union’s clubs being present at the Annual General Meeting, the reaction towards the Financial Report was largely positive, especially due to the fact that the report showed a profit for the union in the 2013 financial year. The audit report indicated that that the financial state and administration of Boland Rugby is in good standing and that the union will enter 2014 in a healthy state.
