***BOOK SPOILERS*** Winds of Winter speculation: What will happen to Theon and Asha Greyjoy? THEON SAMPLE CHAPTER/A DANCE WITH DRAGONS Both Greyjoy siblings are now the prisoners of Stannis Baratheon. They are in a crofters village somewhere on the way to Winterfell from Deepwood Motte, where Asha was captured. Theon has saved Jeyne Westerling from Ramsey Bolton, and they were then captured by Mors Umber and his men. They have managed to keep up the pretence that Jeyne is Arya Stark. Stannis is keeping Theon chained in a tower, hoping that he will give him information about Ramsey and Roose Bolton. Asha is horrified by what has happened to him, and begs Stannis to let her pay a ransom for his life. Stannis refuses, as his northern allies will not allow Theon to live, believing him guilty of the murder of Bran and Rickon Stark. Asha asks that Stannis execute Theon in the way of the old gods, and not sacrifice him to Rhllor. She bids him behead Theon in a nearby weirwood, underneath the heart tree. *** I think that Asha has somehow been contacted by Bran, whether through a dream or perhaps through the godswood at Deepwood Motte. It is mentioned quite a few times that Sybelle Glover, Ashas prisoner is very devout and prays alot. Before her capture, Asha had returned to Deepwood Motte with Lady Glover. Asha is fairly progressive, and maybe she was open to messages from the old gods. It is fairly clear that she would do anything for Theon now, she is aghast at what has happened to him. I dont think that she is simply begging for a quick death for him. I think that Bran might want Theon for a sacrifice. Stannis is the only contender for the throne who understands the threat of the Others, and is working to act against them. If Bloodraven is working towards helping defeat the Others, then perhaps he needs a blood sacrifice to the old gods to help his cause. I believe that Stannis will be convinced to execute Theon in the weirwood under the guise of proper northern justice, because he is trying to win over the northern lords. I think that if Bran talks to him through the heart tree, Stannis might be convinced to give Theon to the old gods in return for an advantage in the upcoming battle. We know that Bran saw some old Starks practicing some form of blood sacrifice in the weirwood at Winterfell. Maybe, since Theon is willing to die, that will count for something. Stannis isnt adverse to sacrifice if he thinks that it is just, and we know he isnt very likely to let Theon go - it would ruin his chance to gain northern allies and probably just strengthen the ironborn if they had Theon back, even in the sorry state that he is in, he is still their Prince. Its unlikely that Stannis can win the battle with Roose without some sort of assistance, his men are weak and the only advantage they have is position. Bran might be willing to forgive Theon for betraying Robb and the sack of Winterfell - but somehow I doubt it. I think that the death of Theon will bring Bloodraven and Stannis together, for good or evil. At the very least, they will defeat Roose, despite the claims of the pink letter. Then they will turn the Norths attention to shoring up the Wall, and the inevitable battle with the Others. So what of Asha? I think that despite the death of Theon, she will join with Stannis. Perhaps she will be convinced that he is Azor Ahai after all, if the old gods appear to think he is. Or perhaps Theon will ask her to take vengeance on Ramsay for him, and she will need to fight alongside Stannis to do so. Its fairly certain that Stannis will retake Winterfell, and I believe he will take Roose down. After that, perhaps Asha will head back to pick up the pieces of Eurons ironborn. I believe that Euron will die at some point, his current success probably means that it wont be an easy defeat, but I dont see him surviving. Perhaps Asha will finally sit the Seastone Chair, and unite the Iron Islands with the North. ~MiLady
