BOTSWANA NATIONAL ASSEMBLY ORDER PAPER (TUESDAY 8TH APRIL, 2014) QUESTIONS 1. MR. D. P. MAKGALEMELE, MP. (SHOSHONG): To ask the Minister of Trade and Industry:- (i) if she is aware that most chicken franchises operating in Botswana do not source their chicken locally (Nandos, Kentucky, Wimpy, Hungry Lion, Barcelos and Chicken Licken), and in cases where it is sourced locally the business practice is anti-competition; (ii) whether such a practice is of international standard and approved by the Competition Authority; and (iii) to state the name of big local players involved in supplying chicken to these businesses. (308) 2. MR. W. B. MMOLOTSI, MP. (FRANCISTOWN SOUTH): To ask the Minister of Infrastructure, Science and Technology to apprise this Honourable House on progress made at the Francistown Stadium. (337) 3. MR. D. P. MAKGALEMELE, MP. (SHOSHONG): To ask the Minister of Transport and Communications to state:- (i) the broad provisions of his Ministry’s Policy regarding the boarding of Government vehicles; and (ii) when he last reviewed this Policy given the current shortage of vehicles in Government. (345) 4. MR. B. NTUANE, MP. (GABORONE WEST SOUTH): To ask the Minister of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources:- (i) if he is aware that the residents of Gaborone West South living in Self Help Housing Agency areas have not been connected to the sewerage pipeline that was installed more than two years ago, if so; (ii) when will the residents be connected to the sewerage line; and (iii) what measures will he put in place to ensure that the residents are assisted expeditiously to reduce exposure to health hazards. (347) 5. MR. O. MOTLHALE, MP. (SOUTH EAST SOUTH): To ask the Minister of Transport and Communications if he is aware that some taxi operators in Ramotswa refuse to service parts of the village such as Magope, Lesetlhana and Sepitswana especially during the off peak times; if so, what will his Ministry do to remedy the situation. (422) 6. MAJ. GEN. M. R. PHETO, MP. (KWENENG EAST): To ask the Minister of Youth, Sport and Culture:- (i) to update this Honourable House on the repayment of the Youth Development Fund loans with particular reference to livestock loans following the devastating drought in 2013; (ii) to state the extent to which young farmers who had breeding projects were affected; (iii) what his Ministry’s position is concerning loan repayments by young farmers who lost all their livestock; and (iv) how many such losses have been reported and their value in monetary terms. (440) 7. MR. I. S. MABILETSA, MP. (KGATLENG EAST): To ask the Minister of Transport and Communications whether he is aware that the Dinogeng-Katane road in Kgatleng District which is mostly used as an access road by farmers and commuters between Mochudi and Olifants Drift is poorly maintained; if so, what plans are in place to maintain this road. (423) 8. MR. F. M. M. MOLAO, MP. (TONOTA NORTH): To ask the Minister of Lands and Housing whether it is Government Policy that unrecognised settlements across the country are not allowed to have cemeteries; if so:- (i) will the Minister assure this Honourable House that this Policy is applied consistently across the country with particular reference to the Tonota North Constituency; and (ii) to state where the people who reside in these settlements are supposed to bury their dead given the usual distances between these settlements and villages. (441) 9. MR. F. M. M. MOLAO, MP. (TONOTA NORTH): To ask the Minister of Transport and Communications when he intends to extend the Botswana Telecommunications Corporation network to Tutume village and the entire sub-district to facilitate more private connections which may improve access to internet services amongst others. 10. MR. D. P. MAKGALEMELE, MP. (SHOSHONG): To ask the Minister of Youth, Sport and Culture:- (i) if he has any affirmative strategy of ensuring that young People Living with Disabilities (PLWDs) benefit from the Youth Development Fund and other Youth Empowerment Programmes in his Ministry; and (ii) to provide as an annexure, evidence of his delivery on this matter. (316) 11. MR. A. S. KESUPILE, MP. (KANYE SOUTH): To ask the Minister of Lands and Housing to state where the people who have for many years used the areas of Gatlounyane, Galosabanyana, Rakhunohunyana, Mphaketlhape, Gampodi and Mheelo for meraka in Kanye will be moved to; he should further explain provisions in place to water their livestock. (448)
