BREAKING: Another Country Bans Burqas… Muslims Are Going Insane Wednesday, December 17th, 2014 The burqa, which has become one of the principal symbols of Islam worldwide, has always stirred controversy. In much of the non-Muslim world, it’s viewed as a sign of radical Islam and an affront to women. Unsurprisingly, this has led to a number of nations imposing some sort of legal sanction on the burqa. Now, another country is levying a ban on it, which has Muslims up in arms. The latest country is China, which has experienced recent unrest due to extremist Muslims, especially in the majority-Muslim province of Xinjang. In response, China has banned the burqa in the province, hoping to stem the tide of what it calls “political Islam.” In addition, the Chinese have banned other Islamic head coverings and beards. It’s come down hard on religions it perceives as being dangerous to the central government. While the prohibition against Falun Gong is probably the best known, the government has restricted numerous other faiths as well. “Beijing blames Islamist separatists for several deadly bomb and knife attacks that have killed hundreds of people in the past two years,” a Reuters report said. There are anywhere between 21 and 50 million Muslims in China, most of whom live in the country’s four northwest provinces. In Xinjang, the majority of Muslims belong to the Uyghur ethnic group. In March of this year, eight Uyghurs carried out one of China’s worst terrorist attacks, killing 29 and injuring 143 in the city of Kunming, in Yunnan province. The eight terrorists, who were wielding knives, carried out the attack in the waiting area of the Kunming Railway Station, apparently slashing indiscriminately. While government officials were quiet about the motive, police sources reported that a flag supporting the independence of the Muslim area of East Turkestan was found at the scene. Many nations – including Turkey – have some legal restrictions against the burqa. Three European countries – France, Belgium, and the Netherlands – ban it outright.
