BREAKING NEWS A Tamale High Court presided by Justice Lawrence Mensah on Tuesday, sentenced all five New Patriotic Party (NPP) youth activists to life imprisonment. The decision was taken by a seven-member jury which decided and charged Yahuza Yakubu, Abibu Dagbana, Majeed Alhassan, Alhassan Sayibu and Imoro Gundaana for conspiracy to murder. Yahuza Yakubu, one of the convicted individuals, was found guilty of murder and conspiracy to murder and has been sentenced to death by hanging. Their Lawyers led by Lawyer Nana Obiri Boahene are appealing the decision. Before their sentence, they were for the first time on August 1 given the opportunity to open their defense at the next court sitting on August 1. The accused persons comprising Yahuza Yakubu, Abibu Dagbana, Majeed Alhassan, Alhassan Sayibu and Imoro Gundaana were arrested in Tamale following a political clash between NPP and NDC youth in front of Tamale Central Market butchers house on February 17, 2009. Rashid Alhassan, NDC youth activist died during the said clash in 2009 which resulted into the burning of 27 houses, vehicles, motorbikes and other valuables in Gumbihini, Choggu and other surrounding communities in the Tamale metropolis. Yahuza Yakubu, Abibu Dagbana, Majeed Alhassan, Alhassan Sayibu and Imoro Gundaana have since 2009 transferred to the Navrongo and Kumasi Prisons but are currently in the Tamale Prisons.
