BREAKING THE CODES - excerpt one idea by ARTUR EKERT written, filmed, edited by KAROL JALOCHOWSKI supported by CENTRE FOR QUANTUM TECHNOLOGIES, NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF SINGAPORE also supported by POLITYKA WEEKLY presented by ARTUR EKERT voiceover by MATHILDA DSILVA guest appearance of DANIEL SIRMANS logistics by EVON TAN music HIT ME HARD by Adam Drake and Tom Jankins, MY ANTS ON MY ROOM by Fried Moura, ATOMICA SONICA by Sue Verran, BLIMP READOUT by Podington Bear Documentary movie Breaking the Codes tells the story of cryptology. It begins with human origins and lurks into future. It will give a closer look to the turning points of world history, which were determined by the usage or misusage of codes and ciphers. We will provocatively ask whether it is really mathematics that is the Queen of the sciences. Our humble suggestion will be: Perhaps it is cryptology that rules the world. Well show that the dynamics of civilization is clocked by the struggle between cipher creators and those who break them. But theres more to cryptology than the power games. Encrypting and decrypting is the fundamental function of our brains. Well present Skytale, Caesar cipher, Al-Kindis research, achievements of Leon Battista Alberti and Blaise de Vigenere, geniuses of Alan Turing and Marian Rejewski, people who broke the unbreakable Enigma, and other episodes of the long storyline of cryptology. Well also explain what the perfect cipher is, and why it doesnt exist in the classical world - only to introduce the phenomena of quantum key distribution protocols. Cryptology will be presented against the wide background of arts and science. Well argue that they are the most fundamental efforts in decrypting and encrypting nature and human experience. The documentary will be hosted by Artur Ekert, Professor of Quantum Physics at University of Oxford and Lee Kong Chian Centennial Professor at the National University of Singapore (hes also Director of the Centre for Quantum Technologies in Singapore). Several historians and key figures of classical and quantum cryptology will be interviewed - Charles Bennett, David Deutsch, Christian Kurtsiefer, Clifford Cocks, and others. The script was written by Artur Ekert and Karol Jalochowski, science journalist and film maker of Polityka, the leading Polish weekly, and also the outreach fellow of Centre for Quantum Technologies. His previous projects include documentary movie Reality Lost, which deals with the problem of measurement in quantum physics. The movie will be shot by Karol Jalochowski. _______ FOLLOW LIPSapp Turnt Up!
