BRIDES OF ALL AGES. Yesterday’s bride is in her very early thirties. She shared that she didn’t believe in love at first sight. Then she met her husband two years ago and changed her mind. According to her husband, also a believer of love at first sight now, he yet has to discover a flaw within her. He also shared that she (a teacher) “cultures” him and he (a farmer/graphics designer), “agricultures” her. About four years ago, I attended the wedding of a very young woman who hadn’t finished high school at the time. When she and her also very young husband exchanged vows, one could hear not only the words but sense the deep love between the two. She finished high school. They have two children now. They both work. And one continues to sense the love between the young couple. Seven years ago, my then 81-year old beautiful widowed friend married an 84-four year old widowed gentleman, a retired minister and the father of her minister. They were surrounded by their families on their wedding day, not everybody being sure that they were doing the right thing. By now there are no doubts, they were meant to be together. I am always happy to hear when the husband, now 91, tells me that he never knew that a wonderful woman like her could exist. The last bride I basically knew only through her son, a dear friend of mine. She was ready to go home and I know her family is thanking God that he welcomed her home yesterday. Here is a glimpse of her marriage provided by a grandchild of her late husband: “In 2003 at age 95, my late grandfather, Newt Beard, re-married after keeping company with a younger woman of 86. Both were widowed and enjoyed 9 years together before he passed in 2012 at 104 years old. Today, Papas widow, Thetys Worely Beard passed away at age 97. We are thankful for the loving years they had together, and grieve with her family over the loss of a kind, loving, wonderful Christian woman.”
