#BRINGBACKOURGIRLS RALLY Wednesday 14 May on Elphinstone Lawn and King’s College Chapel Students at the University want to express their outrage and solidarity for the schoolgirls who were abducted from the town of Chibok in North Eastern Nigeria on April 15th. The #BRINGBACKOURGIRLS campaign is a movement of protests and rallies which is communicated and shared through social media. There have been rallies and marches across the country and around the world. The #BRINGBACKOURGIRLS campaign has been supported by Michelle Obama, David Cameron and people across the globe. Some students and staff at the University of Aberdeen have also mounted a prayer campaign for safe return of the schoolgirls. Students and staff are encouraged to wear red on Wednesday as a symbol of hope and solidarity. This is the colour worn by the mothers of the abducted girls. There will be an opportunity during the day from 11am to 4.30pm to write your name, any messages of compassion, notes of sympathy or prayers and to attach these messages onto a string on the Elphinstone Lawn. At 4.30pm the string of messages will be mounted in King’s College Chapel. There will be a prayer vigil in King’s College Chapel where people may light candles, read, speak or pray from 5pm-6pm. The University Chaplaincy and the Students’ Association are supporting the event along with many other student societies. The event is open to anybody - to people of all faiths and none who would like to express their solidarity with those suffering in Nigeria.
