BRUCE VS KIPP Bruce took on the KIPP Tigers, whom entered the game holding the first place position in the Frontier League tonight at All City Field. It was a match-up of two teams likely to find their way into the playoffs, and potentially see each other in the later rounds as contenders for the state title. The Tigers came off the first whistle quickly showing why theyd earned the first place bid halfway through the season. KIPP was aggressive, organized, and had the Grizzlies fighting to keep their head above water. Junior goalkeeper, Pedro Hernandez, was heroic keeping the score even at 0-0. After some positional changes at half, along with a serious gut check, the Grizzlies figured it out for the second 40 minutes. Bruce was able to control possession, and isolate KIPPs strong sophomore striker. Chances greatly favored the Bruce boys, but the ball again couldnt seem to find the net. Regulation ended at 0-0. In overtime, Bruce maintained control of the midfield throwing one threatening ball after another onto the back post. Finally, Raul Carillo found fellow captain Jose Santos in the midfield nearly 30 yards out. The KIPP defensive set dropped into their 18 yard box giving Santos time and space. The senior let loose an absolute laser to upper right corner, netting the golden goal, and sending home Tigers empty handed. The victorious Grizzlies rushed the field, knowing the significance of coming out with a W in such a tight match-up. FINAL SCORE: Bruce - 1 KIPP - 0
