BULLANTS FULL OF BITE Preston hands Elsternwick stinging eight-wicket defeat in opener (Preston Leader, October 15, 2013 by Patrick Lane) Preston romped to a barnstorming eight-wicket win against Elsternwick to kickstart the VSDCA season on Saturday. The Bullants were barely troubled on foreign soil, tearing through Elsternwick for just 139, then cantering o the modest total. Preston, a finalist last year after a grim summer before, is flirting with top four aspirations thanks to former Northcote bat Kyle Humphrys and wicketkeeper/batsman Andrew Brindley. Hussain Hanif is also relishing peak fitness after an injury-plagued last summer. He took 3-24 as he seared towards Elsternwicks bewildered bats, while former Dragon Humphrys finished 82 not out. We had a good day. We came together as a team and really stuck to our structures. The result looked after us in the end, skipper Brendan Barry said. Weve got a couple of new players into the side which not too many know about. There might be a few teams playing us tho year who come in a bit wary. Barry heaped praise on Humphrys, who almost single-handedly took the game away from the hosts. He had a fantastic day yesterday. He bowls some offies too, but he didnt bowl yesterday, he said. He got us off to a great start, carried through and got us over the line. Hopefully he carries that through to next week.
