BW SPORT: REGIONAL TEAMS IN PLAY-OFFS Mompati Tlhankane reporting for BOPA The season is over for the teams in the top leagues but nothing is far from complete as the teams in the regional leagues are engaged in promotional play offs this weekend (May 10-11). The play offs is that gut-wrenching time of the season where everything is on the line, every team fighting for a promotion towards the upper league. For all the teams from north and the south, it will be a test of survival this upcoming weekend as the teams gear up for the first division promotion playoffs. It has been a remarkable season for each team during which they won their respective regional leagues, but all that will be put aside as the main objective will be to go up. These play-offs would be a series of matches contested by the teams finishing first from their individual leagues. In the south first block, Sharps electrical from Gaborone region, Lesirane City from Kweneng region and Mochudi United from the Kgatleng regional league will meet this upcoming weekend in Modipane for the first round play offs. The teams will be joined by the winners from Southern and South-east regions. Kgatleng will be a battleground and the top two teams from the group will advance to the final stage which will be played at Gantsi the following weekend. In the other block, division one league winners from Ghanzi, Kgalagadi central and Kgalagadi will face each other for the top two spots in the final round. Out of the four teams from both blocks, only two teams will book a ticket to the Debswana first division south league next season. Representing the Kgatleng region, the chairman of Mochudi United Stanley Sekwale said during an interview that they had been preparing for the promotional play-offs for over a month now. He said even though they faced a much tougher competition, they already knew their place in the league beforehand. He said they worked hard to reach the current stage and they would do anything to bring the victory to Kgatleng. “We are ready for the play-offs, we haven’t studied our opponents yet therefore we will do things our way” said Sekwale. Everything will be at stake, every team will be aiming for victory but at the end some teams will win while some lose. The massive spectacle will go down this coming weekend and it will be all in the effort to qualify for a place in the Debswana first division next season.
