Baby Susan Update: Back To The Future The NICU knows how to grow babies. Susan reached the 4lb mark last week and continues to add weight each day. The most recent plan, implemented yesterday - is to begin another new round of steroids, with the goal being to remove her from the ventilator once again. We tried this once before and Susan remained off the vent for 8 days, before having an episode and subsequently having to be re-intubated the end of September. She was telling everyone she just was not ready for CPAP yet. Her lungs are improving slowly but there really isnt any guarantee when you try CPAP. You just hope now that she is bigger, she is also stronger and can breathe without the assistance of a ventilator. Her lungs are a big challenge right now. She received her first steroid dose yesterday. We take a wait and see approach as to when the staff removes the vent. The earliest would be the next couple days. The latest will be next Friday. Well certainly keep everyone posted. As Im typing this update I had to pause to take a call from the hospital. Susan is fine but somehow her tube became congested, or she moved it too forcefully with her hand. In any event, they had to give her manual breaths again until the issue was resolved. Fortunately all of this happened in less than a minute. She is hooked back up to the vent and resting comfortably. This all just happened 30 minutes ago. Isnt this the wildest journey, ever? We appreciate you being here with us, for all the ups & downs. We wish it was all ups but thats not reality. What is reality for us is that God is in control and we stand strong in our faith.
