Back home after the midnight special from Libreville, Gabon and feeling a bit jaded. Had an awesome trip even though the fishing was not what it normally is in Gabon, but thats fishing. Been some heavy rain up there for this time of the year and the water in the estuaries is very brown. Did a last trip to the Callou on Tuesday to find the blue water had moved back in. Unfortunately our poor run of luck on hookups continued as we raised 2 blues that did not stick. Fish have been very small and feeding very shy on the shotgun. Been behaving more like stripes and sails not committing fully. Landed a sail for the day and a few tuna. Think the season is late over there and that things will only improve. Was great to catch my first tarpon and will be back for a big momma next time. A big thanks to all involved in the tournament and for arranging our trip. A real treat to visit the good people of Gabon and we have been treated royally once again. Big thanks to Abbad, the two Oliviers and the staff at La Baie des Tortouse for a your special hospitality and a great time. Big plans for a dual attack at next years 2 tournaments on the new 44 ft boat scheduled for Feb. Will come with better prep and good bait for the sails and hope the fish turn it on again!
