Back in 1965, Congress gave itself the power to steal Social Security money. They call it borrowing and promised that someone else at some time would somehow pay the money back, but trillions of dollars that should be there... arent. It might take ten or fifteen years for all the money to be used up, but it will be in our lifetimes, around the point where debt interest payments will be the majority of new spending by the federal government. W tried to bring attention to this, as did Al Gore in 2000, talking about a lockbox for Social Security. Were so screwed.
