Back in the 70s I wrote for MIKE SHAYNE MYSTERY MAGAZINE. Sam Merwin was my first editor, but there was Larry Shaw, every so briefly, and Chuck Fritch. It was a great learning ground. Among the stories I wrote for Mike Shayne were three private eye stories about Ray Slater, and Lewis Shiner and I wrote two stories about John Talbot, our private eye creation. Also, Lew wrote stores about Dan Sloane, his private eye. All of our stories of the private eye persuasion are gathered here in one volume. This is our apprentice work, but I hope you find it fun. Lew and I have also included comments about writing for Mike Shayne, and about writing together.
