Back in the 80s when I was little, people always used to talk - TopicsExpress

Back in the 80s when I was little, people always used to talk about how well things were built in the good old days, and how everything built those days was junk. Fast forward about 30 years, and now people are looking at things built in the 80s, and talking about how much more solidly things were built then, as they just arent built to last anymore. It occurred to me then that they really werent making an honest assessment of the situation; they were comparing the average new product with the minority of products that managed to survive for 30 years. Thanks to Wikipedia, I have now discovered that there is a definition for this idea. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Survivorship_bias
