Back on track after the last few days beernbbq with friends-period of the summer. 25min mobilisation, 4x 10min run + 15 chin-/pull-ups. 2 weeks to the start of the autumn season - Defendo, kettlebells, who knows what coming up? =) Im also hoping to find some BJJ/MMA/thai- or kickboxing group to join 2-4 mornings per week. Now, if theres something Ive learned during all these years of different sports and martial arts, its the importance of off-season. Obviously this does NOT mean just sitting on your ass for 2 months doing no exercise at all. No matter if youre instructor or hobbyist, your body AND mind will appreciate a period when youre not constantly pushing to your limits but focusing on body-maintenance instead. Especially for us older war-horses, it gives our bodies chance to heal all those little nibbling injuries that might have started to become a nuisance towards the end of the spring. What happens during off-season and how long that season will last, depends of course completely on the individual. I was very happy with mine this summer. 2 months of something like: mobilisation at least 4 times per week, yoga once or twice per week, easy running few mornings per week, chin-ups/pull-ups whenever on the playground with son, random swimming, random push-ups/crunches. And of course two a-w-e-s-o-m-e kayak-trips. This morning I felt so relaxed during the morning run, that I couldnt resist spinning-hook-kicking (a kick that I practice very rarely these days) a leaf that was hanging nicely on head-level. Whoosh - on the spot. And it didnt hurt anywhere. =D
