Back to Basics I: A Fresh Look at Tired Sources. Saturday, November 1, 8:45am-1:00pm Chester County Historical Society 225 North High Street West Chester, PA 19380 Join us as we revisit the use of federal census records in genealogy. We will review the basics and highlight the unique information that each year provides before demonstrating how to use census data cooperatively with other records (maps, deeds etc.) to get results. Classes are perfect for researchers of all skill levels! $10 for members; $20 for non-members. Presented by Kim Bucklaw, Assistant Archivist, Chester County Archives. Kim has over 10 years of research experience. She is the Assistant Archivist and primary genealogical researcher for the Chester County Archives and Chester County Historical Society. She has a masters degree in American History and holds certification from the Academy of Certified Archivists. Schedule of Events Registration and Continental Breakfast: 8:45am-9:15am Session 1: 9:15am -10:45am The Basics and The Details - Learn what the census is and how to search it effectively. Also learn what unique information each census year has to offer and what you may be overlooking. Session 2: 11:00am-12:00pm The Applications - Learn what to do with the information you gather from the census (especially pre-1850 schedules), how to make sense of it and how to apply it to difficult research problems. Session 3: 12:15pm-1:00pm Q&A Session - Anything goes! Ask questions about the days sessions or bring in questions about your own research.
