It shows a sample of 90 Filipino au pairs made by the application reporters on Radio24syv. Au pairs are indicated that they paid between 1,800 dollars and 10,000 kroner to third parties. We hear so many stories of recruitment agencies in the Philippines that are only looking for the girls money. This means that many arriving in Denmark with a large debt in baggage, says Jean Gocotano, a former au pair and now advisor to other au pairs in the union FOA. She knows an example where an au pair had to pay the equivalent of almost 40,000 dollars to become an au pair in Europe. Helle Stenum that migration researcher at Roskilde University and has researched au pairs, confirming the phenomenon of reporters on Radio24syv: Many au pairs pay a huge amount to get to Denmark, and they should of course not. It puts them in a vulnerable situation. They come here in debt and can also be in a dependent relationship with recruitment person, she says. 82 percent of the nonresident au pairs come originally from the Philippines. The Filipino au pair agencies are not recognized by the authorities. This means that there is no oversight of the agencies, and the au pairs can not go no place to go to complain about each curves. The Philippine authorities did not focus on the au pair agencies, but if they were investigating them, many of them would probably be considered illegal, says Helle Stenum. The sample also shows that every third au pair has paid his own airfare to Denmark, as it is only required that the host family pays for the transport home to the Philippines. Au pairs are not paid, but 3,250 crowns a month in so-called pocket money. A one-way ticket from Manila to Copenhagen is around 4000 dollars - that is, more than a month pocket money. Employment Minister Mette Frederiksen (S) has recently submitted a proposal consisting of 14 proposals to improve the au pair the terms.
