“Bad” guys like the one wandering the neighborhood this afternoon – itʻs a revealing challenge – I believe in second chances, third and fourth and fifth chances. I believe in hoping because you never know if or when someone will turn his/her life around. But I donʻt want them in my neighborhood. Iʻm a congenital liberal. I believe in people. I care about justice and fair play, I believe in rehabilitation, in a society that cares for those who cannot care for themselves. The homeless hurt my heart. The mentally ill have my sympathy. The addicted have my pity. And I donʻt want any of them in my neighborhood. Maybe Iʻm not quite who I think I am.
