Baileys Portrait....next stage. The first thing I do after selecting a photo is to prepare the canvas. I get my small canvases from Andy at Turners Art Materials (link in the comments), he makes them to order and they are just perfect for my portraits as they are not too deep so can be hung as they are or framed. My canvases go through several stages before I add the image. I start by painting the whole canvas black, then add white to the centre part. Next I add the background colours, taking them round the sides too. At this stage there is still no evidence that this is going to be a portrait of Bailey.....but I assure you it is a very important part of the process.....todays job is adding swirls!
