Bajwa demands one rank one pay for para-military forces Chandigarh, July 11: The Punjab Congress President, Mr. Partap Singh Bajwa, has demanded the implementation of one-rank-one-pay formula for the retired officials from the para-military forces also. While welcoming the allocation of Rs. 1000 crore under OROP for the ex-servicemen in the budget announced by the Finance Minister, Mr. Arun Jaitley yesterday, he said it was appreciable that the present government had carried forward the decision taken to this effect by the previous UPA government. At the same time, he was of the view that this allocation should be hiked to Rs. 3000 crore. Pleading the case of the para-miltary forces, Mr. Bajwa said the men and women from the para-military forces have to work under adverse circumstances, including guarding the international borders. It is the para-military forces which have to deal with the internal strife. He said in the fight against red terrorism in central India and ultras in North-East and Kashmir, the role of these forces had been commendable and these men had made a lot of sacrifices in maintaining nation’s unity and integrity. It was high time that their contribution and sacrifices were accorded due recognition. The PPCC chief proposed that one way to reward their services was to bring them at par with the defence services in the matter of post- retirement benefits. It would be highly appropriate in case the same scheme was made applicable to them also. He pointed out that during the election campaign, the BJP had been contesting the very fact about the scheme having been approved by the UPA government. He said had now it had been proved with the allocation under OROP head that this scheme had already been operationalized and hence the budgetary allocation. He remarked that the UPA had taken care of the defence forces and now the NDA government should extend this scheme to the para-military forces in the broader interest of the nation.
