Muluzi to represent Mutharika for Zambia’s 50th independence anniversary October 19, 2014 Nyasa Times Reporter Featured, Politics 42 comments Malawi former President Bakili Muluzi will represent President Prof Peter Mutharika at Zambia’s 50th Independence Anniversary to be held in the capital Lusaka on October 24. Muluzi takes leave of President Mutharika Muluzi will lead the Malawi delegation after being delegated by President Mutharika amid speculation that the governing ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) is working on offering United Democratic Front (UDF) president Atupele Muluzi, son to the former leader, the position of second vice-president. Atupele was appointed Minister of Natural Resources, Energy and Mining by President Mutharika in a touted lean cabinet of 20 members. A letter from Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Cooperation addressed to Muluzi’s Chief of Staff stated that it has pleased the President to delegate the former leader to the event. Confirming the development the former President said he was happy with the gesture and he had accepted to travel to Lusaka for the event. He commended Mutharika for showing a spirit of reaching out to the other sectors of society on political, governance and economic issues of Malawi. The former President also applauded Mutharika for inviting presidential candidates in the May 20 Tripartite Elections to luncheon on October 9 saying it underlined his commitment to work with everybody in the interest of the country. “This is very commendable. I urge the President to also consider Members of Parliament from other political parties in his delegation outside the country whenever resources are available,” he said. He said the move would help the MPs to be given exposure to opportunities because they are new. Muluzi, who was appointed Malawi’s Special envoy to Swaziland, met President Mutharika at Sanjika Palace in Blantyre where the former leader briefed him on the progress of mediation talks on the democratic process taking place in Swaziland. Mso T says: October 19, 2014 at 1:47 pm This is the Muluzi I know, so clever and always looking for opportunities. For APM, we know he wants to get support of the eastern region so that he can do whatever he thinks. So saddening for our democracy. 40 petrol kali says: October 19, 2014 at 1:28 pm akuluakulu ngati ziko la malawi lili losalila its because of bakili i hate the muluzi’s anthu osokoneza Reply 39 Dreadful. We poor Malawians, we don’t have no powers to fight what belongs to us but it is only God who fight on our behalf. I think we should wake up one day and tell them we will no longer pay tax. Where is cashgate from Muluzi, what is the difference between Muluzi cashgate and cashgate from Sithole or Senzani?? 30 Wachitaganya says: October 19, 2014 at 12:06 pm This is a huge Diplomatic gafee. While it may seem correct on the domestic political scene I do not think its something that Lusaka will highly cherish. Bear in mind that Sata and the Mithalikas are miles apart all because of Sata’s deportation when he came to visit Muluzi. So what message is Lusaka getting from this? The, President has lost an opportunity to improve relations with this good neighbour of ours. His own attendance or that of Chilima woild have been much better. But when ACB starts to ask questions about the alleged plunder of government money, matenda amakula nthawi yomweyo ku South Africa! This guy needs his day in court to answer for the money he allegedly stole from us taxpayers! He should not be representing us in anyway until the case is over. This is why our politicians have the guts to plunder government money because they know the cases will never see the light of the day! The lady judge in Malawi is NOT blind at all, she is able to see money and influence!! His brother Bingu got the presidency through Muluzi, and did not receive thank you for that, he was treated like a label in Malawi. If the current leader has taken this path, I think it is worth recomendable to all of us, former presidents all over the world are being respected and honored so what is wrong with us in Malawi? I think the two Muthalikas are jst brothers but not same in thinking and acting, I find the younger Muthalika, better than the former, thank you Mr Mr President, although I don’t support your party and you, but you have convinced me to think that you are a good leader from a,party I don’t like and will not like it.
