Barb Denofa The Pennsylvania Independent Regulatory Review Commission (IRRC) will be voting at a public meeting on Thursday, Nov. 21, on the chapter 4 revisions that put Pennsylvania public schools in line with the national Common Core standards. They are accepting public comment through Monday, Nov. 18th. You can contact them with your concerns about Common Core at: [email protected] (If you go on the IRRC home page, you can sign up for notifications on what is happening with different regulatory boards. The regulatory apparatus in Harrisburg is quite mind-boggling! ) State House Education Committee Chairman Clymer doesnt seem to think the Pennsylvania Core Standards (Common Core) is an issue. He said in this letter hes already talked to teachers, superintendents and school board directors and theyve assured him theres no problem with Pennsylvania Core Standards (Common Core). If he doesnt think there is a problem he isnt going to hold hearings to hear what the problems are that he doesnt think exist. We have talked to plenty of teachers, principals, superintendents and school board members that are very unhappy with Pa Core Standards (Common Core). While you are writing the IRRC, can you also please write to Representative Clymer? Ask to talk to him personally, because we arent sure the messages are getting to him opposing Common Core.
