Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas has agreed to join Chelsea - and is now expected to complete a shock £30m move to Stamford Bridge. The Spain international had also been linked with Manchester United, Manchester City and former club Arsenal, but Jose Mourinho has won the race to sign the 27-year-old midfielder. This information is provided by talkSPORT, who understand that Fabregas will return to London after three years with boyhood club Barcelona, who have agreed to sell the Spaniard in order to generate funds to sign either Atletico Madrid midfielder Koke or Sevilla ace Ivan Rakitic. The Catalan giants will also sell another former Arsenal midfielder: Cameroon international Alex Song, who has flattered to deceive since arriving at the Camp Nou two years ago. Arsenal had first refusal to sign Fabregas, but manager Arsene Wenger decided his team did not need the World Cup winner. Chelsea, on the other hand, required a top central midfielder following the departure of club legend Frank Lampard, who was recently released on a free transfer and is now expected to join the newly-formed MLS outfit New York FC. Manchester United had made Fabregas a lucrative contract offer, but their failure to qualify for the Champions League appears to have cost them the chance of signing one of Europes best midfielders. Its believed the former Arsenal star was keen on a move to Old Trafford last summer, but Barcelona refused to sell. Fabregass move to Chelsea comes as a surprise, however. The player effectively told Mourinho to shut up earlier this year, while his affection towards ex-club Arsenal will now be called into question by the Gunners faithful after agreeing a move to a direct city rival.
