Basic needs basket for Copperbelt and north-western provinces. In a statement made available to Comet News Jesuit Centre for theological reflection (JCTR) media and information officer for Copperbelt, Luapula and northwestern provinces Tendai Posiana says the cost of domestic basic needs basket (bnb) expenses for a family of five in November 2014 was k14, 054.25 averaged at k2, 810.81, for Kitwe, Luanshya, Mansa, Ndola and Solwezi., increased considerably. Ms Posiana says that as 2014 draws to a close, statistics on the bnb for November 2014 released by JCTR, indicated increased cost of living by k3,211.25 or an average k642.25 in the five provincial towns covered . She explains that According to the November 2014 market research by the JCTR, the individual bnb costs for Kitwe, Luanshya, Mansa, Ndola and Solwezi stood at k2,463.82, k2,954.81, k2,147.92, k3,182.25 and k3,305.28 respectively. Ms Posiana pegged the individual total cost of cost of food items in the five surveyed towns at k894.52, k1,236.66, k856.61, k1,104.99 and k913.15 respectively compounded at k5,005.93, and averaged at k1,001.18. in a press statement circulated from the Copperbelt provincial town of Kitwe, Ms Posiana explained that the non food items for Kitwe was k1,569.30, Luanshya standing at k1,,718.15, Mansa being pegged at k1,291.31, k2,077.26 for Ndola and Solwezi being the highest cost in this category at k2,392.13. Ms Posiana recalled that for September 2014 cost of basic food and non-food items for a family of five in Kitwe, Luanshya, Ndola and Solwezi was averaged at k2, 992.05 while in august 2014, a cumulative figure was k11, 968.20. last month, October, marking Zambia’s golden jubilee since attainment of self-rule from british colonial rule, the cost of basic food and non-food items for a family of five excluding ndola stood at k2,607.66, k2,901.91, k3,153.69 and k3,304.94 for kitwe, luanshya, mansa and solwezi.
