Basically, Republicans don’t like science and don’t like data - TopicsExpress

Basically, Republicans don’t like science and don’t like data - particularly when it leads to conclusions that contradict their uniquely unscientific view of reality. If you believe that the universe is 6000 years old, as a majority of Republicans do, you will simply reject radiometric mineral analysis that proves you are off by some four and a half billion years. If you refuse to believe the overwhelming majority of scientists who tell us that global warming is real and is caused by human activity, you will champion climate change denial. And if you reject science in general and float your boat on on a sea of personal ignorance you will say things like Tod Akin did about womens biology. It also seems clear that Republican leaders and spokespersons are generally unencumbered by any knowledge of history or government. Sarah Palin, the master of Republican stupidity, didnt just make a pathetic mockery of the entire Paul Revere story, she also said the First Amendment exists to talk radio hosts from the wrath of offended citizens. John Boehner confused the Declaration of Independence with the Constitution. Eric Cantor tried to pass a bill that would somehow, in his magic governmental world, become law with just a House vote. Michele Bachmann thinks John Quincy Adams is a founding father. And the list goes on. Given this anti-intellectual, anti-factual reality, it stands to reason that a massive assault against public education has been a priority of modern conservatism. This is not only offensive, it plays havoc with Americas future. We need a better educated work force and an electorate capable of healthy and lively intellectual debate. We cant afford to be dragged down by right wing ignorance. We dont need that ignorance to spread throughout the land to students in dumbed down classrooms, studying inaccurate textbooks, taught by teachers who are given no resources. We shouldnt have to be fighting a war on public education, teachers, science, and reality. But fight we must.
