Battle of Malaya : Day 19 On the evening of this day in 1941, Ipoh fell into the Japanese hands. The capital of Perak was no longer able to defend itself after the British abandoned the tin-rich city to move southwards. Three months later, the Japanese army established its headquarters at the St Michael Institution (SMI). Ipoh was the third major town in Perak to be taken by the Japanese after Taiping and Kuala Kangsar. The British troops - aided by the Indian and Sikh troops - withdrew from Ipoh and retreated to Kampar after suffering high casualties in Chemor. On the east coast of Malaya, the Japanese are closing into Kuantan. The British are now 36 days away from losing Malaya excluding the additional 15 days from losing as well the Gibraltar of the East - Singapore. Battle of Borneo (Sabah and Sarawak) : Day 11 After days of combats, the capital of the Brooke administration in Kuching was now safely in the hands of the Imperial Japanese Armys 35th Infantry Brigade. The then reigning Rajah Sarawak - Charles Vyner Brooke - was in Australia. Kuching fell on Christmas Day and Sibu was only one day away from the Japanese occupation. Meanwhile in North Borneo, Labuan was now the immediate target for the Japanese after taking over Brunei four days earlier. The main goal for the Japanese was simple; take over Labuan and then attack Jesselton to pave the clear route to the seat of British North Borneo Company - Sandakan. The British are now 24 days away from losing North Borneo and Sarawak. #BattleofMalaya #BattleofBorneo #WorldWarII
