Battlefield spruce-up planned March 22 3/16/14, 2:22 PM CORINTH, Miss. (AP) — Volunteers are teaming with the Civil War Trust to work with local preservationists on maintenance of Civil War sites on March 22. The Corinth Battlefield Unit of Shiloh National Military Park along with the Friends of the Siege and Battle of Corinth and the William P. Rogers Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp will participate in the landscaping and cleaning of the protected sites, a local newspaper reports. The spruce-up is part of Civil War Park Day, a nationwide effort that includes about 100 historic sites in 26 states. Last year, nearly 8,000 volunteers showed up and donated more than 36,000 hours of their time to at 105 historic sites across the country, organizers said. ©2014 Associated Press.
