Batu MP and PKR vice president Tian Chua was arrested today for a short period after he was called in to give a statement at the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters over a Twitter message. According to Vinesh Nair, the communications manager for the Batu parliamentary constituency, Tian Chua was released soon after police confiscated his iPad. The KL cops served a summons on Tian Chua yesterday, asking him to be present to assist in an investigation. In the summons, it was stated that he was required to be present at the KL police contingent today morning to record his statement under Section 4 (1) (C) of Sedition Act 1948. It was learnt that on March 7, Tian Chua tweeted: “Najib sentenced Anwar to 5-year imprisonment – the people will bring down Najib in 5 months, that I promise you!!.” This was soon after the the Court of Appeal had allowed an appeal by the prosecution against Anwar Ibrahim’s sodomy acquittal by the High Court in 2012. The court later sentenced Anwar to five years jail. However it allowed him a stay of sentencing pending a further appeal, and granted him a RM10,000 bail. Upon his release today, Tian Chua tweeted that when he finished giving his statement at 11am, the police used arrest as a pretext to seize his iPad which he said was unprofessional and illegal. He also tweeted that he appeared as a witness to assist in their investigation, yet police officers “arrested me after recording my statement under section 111 of the Penal Code.” His said his statement was recorded by ASP Munusamy in the presence of DSP Rajagopal, both believed to be from the Criminal Investigation department. https://facebook/MalaysianIndiansMustUnite Feel Free To Like This Page ✔ Tag your friends ✔ Share with everyone ✔
