Be sure you are sitting down before you read this... Katie got a call from Fletcher Allen Health Care a couple hours ago. Katies name came up as a match to a deceased donor! It is a perfect match and her name is first on the list in the whole nation!! We are beside ourselves with excitement right now! Is this really happening?? Now? After just missing out on a transplant in Texas? Now? So that Katie would be getting a new kidney even sooner than if she were participating in the exchange? Now? When she is so sensitized and incompatible with 99.9999% of the population?? Is God amazing or what??!! I am trying to temper my excitement. There are still a lot of tests that need to be done to confirm compatibility. Making all the arrangements and flying the kidney to Vermont will take time. Everything is still in the maybe stage - no certainties yet. If Katie gets cleared, the transplant would take place sometime tomorrow! Oh, my! We likely wont even know until tomorrow morning if it is going to happen or not. So! Lots to pray for! I would ask that you especially pray for the family of the deceased donor. It is a terrible reality that in order for Katie to receive this new kidney, someone else has had to die. Please pray for a grieving family who, in the midst of their loss, is giving an incredible gift to others. Then rejoice with us that their gift will mean a new and better life for Katie!!
