Be the light We are moving into summer, a time for graduations, vacations, weddings, and family reunions. We will be given plenty of opportunity to be with family and friends who sometimes present stronger challenges and conflict for us than those of the secular culture. Just because we share a common blood doesn’t mean we share common values, faith, or morals. In fact, the differences can feel more intense and harder to deal with because we really care about those we see making choices or lifestyle decisions that are not in line with the gospel message. When it is easier to checkout, retreat or recoil from distasteful behaviors or opposition, as long as it isn’t harmful to be present, we as Christians have to make the effort to be Christ’ light and love in the face of it, in spite of it. Be that quiet, humble and loving presence of the true reality of Christ. In that ministry of presence, trusting in God’s will and love, we can be sure that no amount of darkness, dysfunction, or diffi cult personalities can put out Jesus’ light, which is your light in that room, talk, or situation. His grace is enough, so go on and shine your light. ~Joyce Se la luz Estamos entrando en el verano, una época de graduaciones, vacaciones, bodas y reuniones familiares. Se nos darán muchas oportunidades para estar con amigos y la familia. Que a veces nos presentan retos y conflictos para nosotros más fuertes que los de la cultura secular El hecho de que compartimos una misma sangre no signifi ca que compartamos los mismos valores de fe o moral en común. De hecho, las diferencias pueden sentirse más intensas y más difícil de tratar porque realmente nos preocupamos por los que vemos tomar decisiones al estilo de vida que no están en línea con el mensaje del evangelio. A veces es más fácil retirarse o retroceder ante comportamientos desagradables o contrarios para que estos no sean dolorosos cuando uno está presente, nosotros como cristianos tenemos que hacer el esfuerzo de ser la luz y el amor de Cristo en estas situaciones. Se tranquilo, humilde y se la amorosa presencia de la verdadera realidad de Cristo. En ese ministerio de presencia, confía en la voluntad y el amor de Dios, podemos estar seguros de que ninguna oscuridad, disfunción, o personalidades difíciles puede apagar la luz de Jesús, que es tu luz en esa habitación, discusión o situación. Su gracia es sufi ciente, por lo cual sigue adelante y haz brillar tu luz. ~Joyce Marks
