Be warned - full strength rant. Whats with the Fun Police here at The Ponds? Twice theyve come and destroyed kid driven initiatives in the bush between Meander and Crimson. The first time several weeks ago with no warning they pulled down a small tree house and rope swing my kids had made that the children in the local neighbourhood were all using. My kids were devastated. But yes I see the point that a small wooden platform on council land could be deemed dangerous - still! Secondly, just yesterday, the Fun Police have come back and flattened the bmx track that a stack of local pre-teens and teens have built themselves over many weeks by hand! Mind you, these people are happy to pull down these things but they wont come and pick up the rusty barb wire, metal objects and chunks of concrete that have been lying around since they took the fence down and which a number of us have written to then asking them to remove. If the kids/teens are building these things for themselves its because there is a distinct lack of facilities for this age group at The Ponds. Yes theyve just opened a new park on Waterfall that has - wait for it - ping pong tables but come on! What pre-teen/teenager will stand around calmly waiting for their turn at ping pong! Yes we are also blessed with lovely, serene bike paths that families regularly use. Not appealing to a teenager. Where is the skate park that we were promised? How about getting this demographic involved in planning facilities for them rather than more toddler parks? If there are no facilities that appeal to the adventurous nature of this age group then we are going to get trouble. A bunch of teenagers fuelled with hormones and too much time on their hands is not a good recipe. Come on Fun Police - bring back the fun!
