Be warned... Im about to say something extremely - TopicsExpress

Be warned... Im about to say something extremely controversial.... There seems to be a large amount of Facebook related things recently to do with sharing support for soliders. The idea is like this page or share this page to show your support. With this comes a massive amount of pride and love for the soldiers... But... Is it really good to be proud of our soldiers? Allow me to explain First of all, lets define solider according to the Oxford dictionary. Soldier - a person who serves in an army. And just define army... Army - an organized military force equipped for fighting on land So... We are we suggesting we are proud of people who serve an organised military fighting force? Ill let you answer that one... Secondly lets look at the emotion of pride... Pride - a feeling of deep pleasure or satisfaction derived from one’s own achievements, the achievements of one’s close associates, or from qualities or possessions that are widely admired So if I get this right...some people feel satisfied at the achievements of a solider for serving an army? In a different context people are satisfied and admire people who use military force on other people? This just doesnt make sense to me, and I hope to a lot of people too. I will also like to suggest that as many people know, pride is a volatile emotion, and is vulnerable to attack... The phrase pride cometh before a fall is often used to express that. Its vulnerable because its dependant on external conditions, therefore if those conditions change or break, one can easily slip into anger or aggression. I offer you this thought, it appears to be a somewhat common belief among society to aspire to the level of pride because I believe it is the first level out of negativity, but why can we not aspire to the level of the people who have been here before and set perfect examples of love... People like Gandhi, mother Teresa...even Jesus if you like. If we all aspired to a level of love for one and all, and we stopped to realise that we are sending humans to kill other humans because we believe their beliefs and the way they live is wrong...and we realise that there is no competition and we are all the same... Then I think this world will become a more beautiful place. I hope this helps raise the consciousness, compassion and kindness of all whom it reaches. You will never create peace with war
