Because I have noticed several people have disputed what I posted about upcoming guidelines for breast cancer screening, I thought I should try to address those. I know that some of you have received covered mammograms since ACA went into effect that you did not receive in the past, some of you have referred to fact check sites and some to the ACA site itself. Please read this carefully. As you know, the ACA is going into effect in stages. The guidelines I outlined are on the following web site: uspreventiveservicestaskforce.org. This is a division of the Department of Health and Human Services. These guidelines were written in 2009 but were not put into practice because of the uproar they caused in Congress. However, they were written into the ACA and will go into effect sometime after mid-term elections. I was made aware of this information by a radiologist at Baptist Womens Health Center. This is a facility that does nothing but mammography and ultrasound. The physicians there are well informed and Im sure not alarmists. I have since checked out this information for myself and it is all there. Of course its not on the ACA site. Who would want to admit to these ridiculous directives? Please dont be duped by all the propaganda that is to come which will try to convince us that these new guidelines are in our best interest. I have contacted Susan G. Komen Foundation and it appears they are aware but not protesting as they should. Have they bought in? Early detection is essential! We must stand up and be heard. We are all important, no matter our age or history. Dont let bureacracy dictate our health care.
